Buy Pralines on National Praline Day from Stuckey’s Pecan Candy Shoppe

Today, Wednesday, June 24th is National Pralines Day.

An American pralines is a combination of syrup and pecans, hazelnuts or almonds with milk or cream, resembling fudge.

A French pralines is a combination of almonds and caramelized sugar. It is harder than an American praline.

When I think of pralines I remember stopping at Stuckey’s on our way to camping at Myrtle Beach on our summer vacation in the 70’s.  Stuckey’s is a confectionery candy and gift shoppe.  It began as  a Georgia pecan stand in 1937 so of course there version of the pralines have only pecans in the recipe.

At its peak the Stuckey’s chain  had over 350 locations but now it is down to just over 100 location almost exclusively in the south.  It use to be known as Stuckey’s Pecan Shoppe or Stuckey’s Pecan Candy Shoppe.

Here is a map to help you find the nearest Stuckey’s.

But if you can enjoy a Stuckey’s pecan praline by ordering online.  Unfortunately you have to buy 24 of them.  Here is the link:

I myself use to buy their more famous pecan log rolls…so sweet they will make your teeth hurt which is what I wanted as a kid!

Affordable Prime Rib at Texas Roadhouse to Celebrate National Prime Rib Day

Today, Monday April 27th, is National Prime Rib Day.   If you don’t already have your favorite spot for prime rib you might want to consider Texas Roadhouse.   Rumors around the Internet seem to indicate that their rendering of the prime rib is not too bad and at an affordable price to boot!

Also the free peanuts never hurt but beware this place is not for those with peanut allergies…the peanuts and shells are everywhere. They give away over 8 million pounds of peanuts a year!

Here’s a link to our map and directory that shows the Texas Roadhouse near you.

An Arbor Day Poem, Arbor Day Events, and Famous Trees

Just putting a shell to your ear makes the waves pound.
The sun is way up high in space but does not feel that way.
Holding a rock may be holding lava but dry.
The trees blow in the strong wind that blows away dust.
The trees give a us a present that is our home
and I don’t know how to thank them.
What a wonderful world we are in.
How thankful we are to be here.

My daughter Zoe wrote that poem in 2nd grade.
I think it is wonderful that she thanked the trees especially on this Arbor day, Friday April 24th.

Lets all reflect and be thankful for all the wonderful things that trees provide to us.

To help our MapMuse visitors celebrate Arbor Day and to honor of all the wonderful things that trees provide to our world we have researched two topics; Arbor Day Events and Famous Trees across America.

Here are the links to the map and directories.

Today March 26th is National Spinach Day and while probably not the healthiest way to consume spinach, enjoying a warm bowl of spinach dip would certainly hit the spot.

Here are links to maps and directories of Cheesecake Factory and Applebees near you to help you celebrate National Spinach Day.

“Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!”

On this day (March 23rd) in the year 1775 Patrick Henry gave his famous “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!” speech. The speech was a call to take up arms against the oppression of the British forces. It was made from the floor of the Second Virginia Convention being held at St. John’s Church in Richmond, Virginia.

His main point was that peace at the cost of liberty and freedom is a transaction that should never be consummated.

You can find this location as well over 700 other American Revolutionary War sites, memorials and museums using a map and directory we compiled to help even the most seasoned history buff.
